Faceless
My son
dressed up for Halloween in a Slenderman costume. This character is pretty normal-looking,
dressed in a suit and tie with a hat.
The scariness about it, besides it being the one to hunt you down to
kill you in a computer game, is that it has No Face. There is something frightening about a person
with no face. You can’t tell what they
feel about you, what they want from you, or how you stand in their sight. There is a definite failure to
communicate. God is nothing like
Slenderman. He has reached out to us, has “hunted us down” to Save us, when we
couldn’t possibly know to reach back, by talking directly to people in the Old
Testament, by sending His Son to us face to face to die for us, and through His
Word and the comfort of the Holy Spirit right now. He has not failed in any way
to communicate! We cannot see the Face of God the Father now as we are now, but
we have the promise that we will one day see His Face when He brings us Home. 1 Corinthians 13:12 says “For
now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part;
but then shall I know even as also I am known.” What a joy it will be to look
into the Eyes of God…and live!
